$15 at Amazon, Amazing Time For Child Support

Amazon has more than 350,000 workers. In fact, Amazon has a fulfillment center in Chattanooga, Tennessee in Hamilton County, and another in Bradley County, Tennessee north of Cleveland. Bowing to pressure from politicians like Bernie Sanders, Amazon raised its minimum wage from $11 an hour to $15 per hour and was thanked by Bernie Sanders.

In turn, Amazon has put pressure on other companies and United States politicians to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour. This impacts child support. Remember, minimum child support is imputed at the federal minimum wage in many cases. Thereby, a pay raise at Amazon could mean a rise in your child support obligations.

Amazon has also removed its incentive program, taking away what had been a key part of its pay arrangement. Thus, some will make less money potentially with bonuses and stock pay outs being phased out. If your pay has fluctuated at Amazon, this could be a basis for lowering or raising your child support.

If you work at Amazon, depending on how much you were getting paid, expect your child support payments to change. With employment numbers of 350,000+ people, Amazon could employee almost 1 in every 100 Americans. If you are receiving or paying child support, now might be a good time to see if you could get more or pay less child support based on someone's new raise or pay decrease, given the removal of the incentive packages versus the $15 flat payment schedule.

In theory, child support could be set or modified based off someone's previous stock and bonus pay schedule. That individual would then turn around and say that Amazon has sliced employee incentives, and therefore my income should be calculated at a lower basis for child support purposes.

More than likely, most Amazon workers when facing a child support modification or setting of support will have their child support calculated at $15 per hour, so get ready Amazon employees, child support petitions maybe headed your way. Contact Advice Law Firm if you are faced with a new child support modification or set support petition.
